ICFE Preparation | Print |

The International Certificate in Financial English (ICFE) is a Cambridge ESOL exam developed in partnership with ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), the largest and fastest-growing international accountancy body.  The exam is set at levels B2 and C1 of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (equivalent in level to the Cambridge First Certificate in English and Certificate in Advanced English) and assesses language skills in a financial context.

ICFE is an ideal qualification for anyone thinking of, or already pursuing, a career in accountancy or finance.  For the finance professional who already has an established and successful career, it can be used to validate their English language skills in a financial context.

Our ICFE preparation course lasts 198 academic hours and is open to students at Upper Intermediate level and above.

On the course you will:

  • Become familiar with the language and concepts found in books, newspaper and magazine articles and websites on business and finance.

  • Refine your use of vocabulary and grammar.

  • Speak more fluently and gain a greater command of idiomatic expressions, collocations and phrasal verbs in a financial context.

  • Develop a range of reading and listening skills and the ability to understand and process a broad range of complex, authentic texts in the area of finance and economics.

  • Have the opportunity to discuss business and financial concepts and develop the skills of summarising, analysing and criticising.

Courses are taught using English for Business Studies and Business Benchmark (Cambridge University Press) as the coursebook with a range of supplementary materials to develop financial vocabulary and language skills in areas such as

  • Financial Reporting

  • Auditing

  • Banking

  • Budgetary Processes

  • Cost and Management Accounting

A key feature of the course is that exam tasks are introduced gradually, giving training in exam strategies, the format of different tasks and guided practice in successful task completion including analysis of sample answers.

IPT also includes a number of practice tests in all papers with feedback and guidance by staff with many years of experience in teaching exam preparation courses and examining for Cambridge ESOL.

ICFE is administered by IPT in Moscow in May and November, details of dates, fees and registration procedures are available here: http://www.iptrussia.ru/content/view/117/150/lang,en/
