This is a specialised course combining lively, authentic materials from a wide range of business sources based on topics relevant to professionals working in the field of Human Resources, namely: 

• Company profiles and job descriptions

• Recruitment and employment

• Training and staff development

• Communications

• Employee relations 

The course is scheduled for 50 academic hours and is designed for students at Upper Intermediate level or above.  

The course provides preparation and practice in essential listening, speaking, reading and writing skills for people who need English in a business environment.  Skills work is supported by a wide range of practical, industry-specific vocabulary and contextualised grammar practice.   

Each topic area contains:

• Discussions, problem solving activities and role-plays designed to build up essential business speaking skills such as those required for meetings, conferences, negotiations and telephoning. 

• Step-by-step work on writing skills in order to be able to write a range of text types such as e-mails, memos, faxes, letters and reports with an awareness of register and style

• A large number of authentic business articles from a wide variety of well-known business publications together with examples of e-mails, reports, staff surveys and proposals, all designed to teach essential business reading skills. 

• Specially designed listening materials and authentic interviews with Human Resource Managers and other related professions to improve listening proficiency and confidence within a stimulating, relevant context. 

• Numerous vocabulary exercises related to the area of Human Resource Management to provide the necessary resource to handle most workplace situations. 

• Grammar explanations and exercises to revise and extend students’ knowledge of English grammar at this level within a practical work context.

As well as the full course materials, each free study pack contains           

• A word list of the core vocabulary related to Human Resource Management. 

• A section of extra practice materials (grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing) that can be used outside class in order to revise and extend the material covered in the course
